This morning I took some of my precious shells back to the beach and set them down in a small pile for other shell-lovers to appreciate. I plan to do that almost every day, just as a way of saying thanks to the beach and the sea for sending these stunning shells up on the sand for us to see and be grateful for. The shells being to the beach and the sea, not to me, and I want to save only a small number to take home as a reminder of their simple but majestic beauty. Most of my collected shells, however, will be placed back on the beach, where they can eventually, by weather and tides and human footsteps, be ground down into the wonderful white sand that we all love.
