Yesterday, we enjoyed two smooth flights – Hartford to Baltimore and then to Ft. Meyers, FL …

– and we are now very comfortably nestled in a quiet condominium community on Sanibel Island.

As I’m writing this – 12:15 pm – we are sitting together in the living in front of a vast window with a view of palm trees and the distant beach – slight breezes swaying the trees and some grayish clouds lazily passing.

Yesterday, after we arrived on the island, we turned in our rental car and then walked about 1 1/2 miles back to our condo and spent a peaceful evening ‘at home’, reading, chatting. and watching the evening light arrive. After dinner, we walked down to the beach and saw the first of what I’m sure will be many spectacular sunsets.

This morning, after a very restful sleep, we enjoyed our usual simple breakfast, and then walked 1 1-2 miles to Billy’s Bike Rentals, where we selected our transportation for the next two weeks – two sturdy bikes with handbrakes and several speeds. We then rode a few miles to the Lighthouse Cafe, where we picked up a lunch menu and I had a quick cup of coffee and a croissant. Then we rode back to the condo, where – persuaded by the serene atmosphere – I slowly fell into a mid-morning slumber. When I awoke, we rode back to the Lighthouse Cafe and enjoyed a very (almost too) filling lunch.
